Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is one of the most thrilling and less-explored trekking destinations located in the eastern part of Mt. Kanchenjunga, straddling the border between Nepal and Sikkim, India. Mt. Kanchenjunga, standing at 8,586 meters, is the world’s third highest mountain. Opened to trekkers only in 1988, this trail remains largely pristine and unspoiled.
The trek offers a rich blend of diverse landscapes and cultures, along with spectacular panoramic views of the world’s four highest peaks — Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, and Mt. Kanchenjunga itself. The route passes through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project (KCAP), which covers 2,035 square kilometers and is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elusive snow leopards, Himalayan black bears, musk deer, red pandas, and numerous bird species such as pheasants and red-billed blue magpies.
Along the way, trekkers will experience the unique lifestyles and traditions of ethnic groups like the Sherpa and Rai, immersing themselves in both natural beauty and rich cultural heritage while enjoying breathtaking mountain views throughout the journey.
